Purists might quibble over whether or not Conan the Barbarian is a direct adaptation of the original pulp stories, or if Arnold Schwarzenegger is the most accurate representation of the character, but director John Milius gets the grim spirit of Robert E.
Howard pretty much right here. Testosterone and blood-soaked, this is entertaining stuff. The absolute highlight, though, is Basil Poledouris' Wagneresque score - it's one for the ages, and belongs on a short list of the best film scores in movie history.
