Review of Conan the Barbarian (1982) by Anssi V — 04 Dec 2011
This movie has its flaws. It's unbeliavably silly at times, some of the acting is pretty painful, it's cheesy and it's corny. But, it's also epic, thrilling, full of brilliant action scenes, great heroes and encaging stories.
The quintessential gulty pleasure, really. And I absolute love it for it. Yes, the story has its holes, but it doesn't really matter. This is one of those fantasy adventure films that you can just slip into your DVD-player, lean back and relax.
And really, there are some really impressive moments in this film. The art direction and style are both absolutely stunning, the characters are fun to watch and there's a real sense of scale in the story.
But, if you don't like corniness or cheesiness in films, then this really isn't for you. But if you like fantasy films, Arnold Scwarzenegger or enjoyable stories in general, then this is definitely worth a watch.
