Review of Conan O'Brien Can't Stop (2011) by Tom R — 12 Sep 2011
Conan O'Brien Can't Stop plays like a behind the scenes documentary; if you like Conan, you'll like the movie. In June 2011, he delivered an extraordinary commencement address at Dartmouth College about how failure is freeing; as long as you don't expect the film to be as touching as the speech, you'll enjoy it.
The film shows that Conan is a very funny man who loves his fans, although there are some moments are bafflingly edited to seem like he's a dick (but perhaps that's how he acts around his writing staff).
Conan himself sums up the movie before one of his shows on the Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour: "I might be a f***ing genius or I might be the biggest dick ever... or maybe both; that's what Patton was.
" But I don't think Conan is a dick and Conan O'Brien Can't Stop isn't as self-serving as it could be; the whole movie could have been about how he got screwed, but it's more about his tour and rebirth.
