Review of Conan O'Brien Can't Stop (2011) by Thomas G — 06 Jan 2012
He can't stop because he says he will lose his mind! At least that's what he says within his context. That aside, this is an amazingly entertaining documentary that really does follow how Conan is able to keep himself in work without being on his show, by scheduling 44 shows for the six months after his show gets cancelled. He must do this since the large cash amount he got after the show stated that he was not allowed to appear on television, radio, or film for six months. And the best thing about the film is how he is such a comedian that he both loves and hates his job in a way. It is fascinating to watch as he performs and goes backstage to prepare. You get a good context of the jobs of his employees, and the celebrities that he is with on stage and back. However, this film is still hilarious throughout despite the backstage aspect. And I don't even know Conan O' Brien that much!
While I am praising this film, I must touch on some flaws of the documentary that may seem minor or not. First, the film barely touches on his comeback to television through TBS. Sure, it happens at the very end, but that is only for about a minute. Second, it very barely touches on his family aspect. You get to learn much about Conan, but not much of his wife, his child, etc. There are some questions I was asking about that. However, it did not keep me from being entertained by the rest. Even if you're not a fan of Conan, you should watch this.
