Review of Compulsion (1959) by David S — 14 Jul 2007
Orson Welles proves once again that he is one of the greatest actors ever within this film. The direction is solid, the performances by Dean Stockwell and Bradford Dillman are excellent, and plot has moments of genuine suspense.
However, the film does have its occasional slow and dry scenes that drag out the film, and the supporting cast is sub-par and pail drastically in comparison with the stars. Still, a very intelligent crime drama and one of the best versions of the Leopold-Loeb case (also seen in Hitchcock's "Rope", Barbet Schroeder's "Murder by Numbers", and Tom Kalin's "Swoon").
