Review of Compound Fracture (2013) by Adam K — 28 May 2013
With Compound Fracture, Mane Entertainment offers the rare experience of a supernatural thriller that relies not on gratuitous violence, sex, and gore, but rather on a finely crafted tale of a family coping with dementia, the loss of a loved one, and an unnatural force threatening to tear them all apart.
Geerlings and Mane have written characters than many can realistically relate to, and have included close-to-home themes that are handled delicately. An independent film without the look or feel of an arthouse or gorehound flick, Compound Fracture succeeds in selling the supernatural and murderous element with a plot that is methodical, yet never plodding, building to a crescendo that never resorts to camp.
I will be honest in that this film surprised me. For those who want something new, something fresh... I cannot recommend it enough.
