Review of Compliance (2012) by Clay W — 14 Feb 2013
This was a hard watch. Every once in a while there is a film so fucked up, if you finish watching it, you feel like any sense of humanity is dead in the western world (i.e. requiem for a dream). Im not surprised that many walked out because it touches on lemale exploitation through erotic humiliation.
The film is a stark realisation of naivety, exploitation, how crude a human mind can get and control. The shots are cold and static to remind us of the sterile environment most folks are in, working a dead beat job just to survive and plenty with personal problems.
The camera ever so shies away in embarrassment when it knows the prank has gone into overdrive with the silent tension around a very obvious but hidden fellatio. Watch on a semi happy/bad day and unhook the phone.
