Review of Compliance (2012) by Shaun B — 04 Apr 2013
This was an extremely uncomfortable and disturbing film to sit through. I still find it hard to believe that this film was based on the real world strip search prank call scam in America. The film is a classic study of the extent to which people will absolve themselves of responsibility for their own actions in yielding to and complying with perceived authority.
The film can hardly be described as entertaining - more an endurance test. Despite the film being overly voyeuristic, there's an important theme being explored here. I suppose cinema is not always about being entertained.
