Review of Compañeros (1970) by Jarett B — 14 Jun 2011
This is my personal favorite (non-Leone) Spaghetti Western. The movie never takes itself seriously but never crosses the "too corny" line. The film is a more humurous Western than most but does not downplay it's serious message on the nature of the Mexican revolution.
Nero and Milian play great off each other and Jack Palance is perfectly hammy. The morricone score, while not being his best, is perfect for the film and the main theme is definitely one of his most memorable (once you've actually heard it).
western fans looking to find a new gem would do well to check this one out.
