Review of Communion (1989) by Chris H — 29 Aug 2007
Like the mothman prophecies, this is a film based on a book documenting a series of paranormal events. The difference I would say is that Streiber's experience was far more a personal and domestic one, and in as much translates to film far better.
What you get is the story of one man's encounters with the paranormal and the consequences for his worldview, his family and his life. Christopher Walken plays the part very well, making the character very likeable and "everyman" without losing certain nuances that give him individual and believable.
Because of the domestic setting some of the scenes are far creepyer than Mothman, but the outcome overall is more emotional. It's moving and inspiring in many ways. Me and a few chaps I know have seen this film about amillion times and we're still not tired of it.
It's fascinating.
