Review of Command Decision (1948) by Rick R — 17 Jul 2010
Command Decision (1949).
Based on a successful stage play by William Wister Haines. It?s a war movie without much action, but deals with the drama from a general's point of view.
Brigadier General K.C. Dennis (Clark Gable) has a rough job. He must send his men off for daylight bombing raids deep inside Germany to attack various Nazi factories that are manufacturing the Luftwafa's new jet fighters. If more of the jets are mass-produced and operational, it would effect the war for the allies.
The morale of General Dennis?s men is bad. The casualties are high. He's hiding from reporters and visiting dignitaries, and getting his assistant, Technical Sergeant Immanuel T. Evans (Van Johnson) to run interference for him. But, when Major General Roland Kane (Walter Pidgeon) visits the base General Dennis has to justify what he's doing.
The movie features a large male cast, including Brian Donlevy, Edward Arnold, John Hodiak, Charles Bickford, Cameron Mitchell, and John McIntire.
