Review of Coming to America (1988) by Andriy Y — 22 Mar 2014
Coming to America is an intriguing comedy, not the funniest, but it kept my attention with a decent story. One of Murphy's finer movies, but that's not saying much.
Murphy plays Akeem, an African prince who, with his assistant Semmi, travels to Queens to find a woman who respects him for who he is, not his wealth. There, his job at the fast food restaurant MacDowell's lands him dating Lisa MacDowell, although he can't tell her he is an African prince when he tries to pose as poor.
Coming to America tells a good story that keeps me focused very well, and it does have its funny moments. I would suggest it for Murphy fans, but I would watch out for some other Murphy films...
