Review of Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope (2011) by Robert H — 01 Aug 2012
While short on runtime, Comic-con isn't short on stories. Managing to tell multiple stories about multiple characters (all real of course), Spurlock takes some of what Comic-con is in order to create a fun, geekish look at an event that has managed to capture the world every year.
While I would have liked to have had more history on the convention, Spurlock uses his given permition to film at Comic-con (something not before granted) to fill out the film and allow outsiders a tiny glimpse into the world that is geek.
There is plenty of Joss Whedon, Stan Lee, and Kevin Smith but despite being involved in the film and doing the rounds with it, I was a little displeased to see so little of Harry Knowles in the film. And how could they cut Felicia Day out of most of it. There had to be plenty of great footage using her.
But despite the lack of certain mainstays of geekdom, Comic-con manages to tell an entertaining tale of the convention from many different perspectives. Kudos to Spurlock for a job well done.
