Review of Comedian (2002) by Chadwick M — 30 Jun 2006
As you probably noticed I haven?t posted lately. Well there are a few reasons.

After 2 damn weeks of rain we finally got some decent weather in these parts so I?ve been spending my evenings walking/exercising in an attempt to reduce my flabby man boobs. (If I got any flabbier I would soon need a ?Bro? or ?Manssiere?)
When its 30 degrees Celsius outside its roughly 35 degrees in my apartment until it cools off around 10 pm. So I go for my evening walk in the early evening not leaving enough time for a flick before bedtime.
When my apartment finally cools off I spend the time before I go to bed reading books about babies, fatherhood and parenting books. With Baby Samurai coming in about 4 months I got to bone up on some dad skills ASAP.
One of the Dad books I read was about a father reconnecting with his seven year old son by introducing him to The Beatles (or as I like to call them ?The Clarences??Skinbot will get that reference.) and sharing in his sons obsession with all thing Beatles. This book totally relit my fire for the fab four and I am in the throes of rediscovering The Beatles again so I been listening to a lot of CDs lately.
.
Here is what I watched recently:.
Comedian: The documentary follows Jerry Seinfeld after he retired all his old famous comedy bits (you can check out the classic stand up bits he retired on the HBO special ?I?m telling you for the last time?) as he returns to stand up. The film follows Jerry as he crafts a new routine from scratch as he struggles with bits, regaining his timing, and eventually coming up with a 90 minute show. The film also follows Orny Adams a comedian on the verge of breaking through. What is interesting about following the two comedians is that when you watch Seinfeld you basically have this guy who has made it, who is simply doing the comedy because he loves it. On the other hand the film juxtaposes Jerry with Orny a young driven comedian who is so obsessed with making it that he doesn?t seem to realize that he should be enjoying the experience more and this makes for some interesting parallels. The film finishes with Jerry doing a full show at a huge theatre but unfortunately fails to wrap up anything that happens to Orny and just leaves his story unresolved and cut off in mid thread. Nonetheless an interesting look into the craft of comedy. :fresh: .
