Review of Come Undone (2000) by Ian M — 11 Nov 2011
The literal translation of the title of this French film is "Almost Nothing" so this is one of the few times they decided to change the name for the US release. Perhaps they thought it'd resonate with American audiences more if they titled it after an old Duran Duran song.
I found the movie to be a very touching story about a gay teenager's first. Like a lot of independent films, not a lot goes on and a lot is left for the audience to decipher. The beauty in these kind of movies seeing the characters react, and when done well it comes off as honest and artful. I also liked the fractured narrative style. It's not surprising that this film came out in 2000 in Europe since they've proven themselves to be much more progressive than the US. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes queer films.
