Review of Come to Daddy (2019) by Lambo442 — 26 May 2021
The film starts off really well with dark humour and intrigue but about half way through the 'comedy' factor starts to influence the writing in such a way that it interferes with the gritty realism that had been established.
For example, after his dad is stabbed with a pen covered in excrement in order to give him an infection, Elijah asks 'why are you getting stabbed with poo pens?' I'm sorry, but at that point he would be so traumatised and messed up in the head that making jokes would be the furthest thing from his mind.
Make it funny sure, but don't let the comedy take precedent. It should feel natural. I switched it off at this stage as I stopped enjoying it.
