Review of Come Dance with Me! (1959) by Ben S — 25 Jan 2010
Now this charming French comedy-murder mystery is a joy to watch, nothing groundbreaking or spectacular but easy going fun.
The original French bombshell Brigitte Bardot stars as young dentist's wife who begins to work at a dance studio to find out who killed the woman she at first suspected was her husband's mistress.
Stylish and just that little bit risque, 'Come Dance with Me' is a combination of romantic farce and Agatha Christie-style murder mystery (except with some sex appeal).
But there's no doubt who or what's the real attraction here, it's Bardot and although she was never credited that much for her acting when she choose roles like this it suited her nicely.
She looks great in everything she wears (and I do mean everything!), she dances and she sleuthes, she wisecracks about her beauty and has no problems using her sexuality to solve the case... What's not to like?
The supporting cast also does with Henri Vidal, Dawn Adams and Dario Moreno all of whom give scene stealing performances.
Also look for singer Serge Gainsbourg who is most famous for singing the sultry 'Je T'aime, Moi Non Plus' with Bardot.
Light entertainment that's a fine showcase for it's adorable and sexy star.
