Review of Columbus (2017) by Josh S — 13 Sep 2017
Directed by Kogonada. Cinematography by Elisha Christian. Very quiet movie. only one or two scenes were not shot on a tripod. even the dolly shots usually came to a stop for a long time. they relied on long takes to show the slowness of these two peoples lives (not changing).
John Cho comes home as the 35 y/o estranged son. His father in a coma. Meanwhile, a 20 y/o girl (Haley Lu Richardson) is struggling with the idea of leaving her mother who is very dependent on her. Parker Posey has a small part.
the acting was a little over-acted. read: a directors note like "ennui with MORE INTENSITY!". a little silly. the focus was the relation of these two characters as they talk about their lives and the modernist architecture in Columbus Indiana.
