Review of Colossal (2017) by Alexander R — 20 Jan 2018
A novel comedic approach to the ginormous monster movie genre, COLOSSAL blends some Anne Hathaway/Jason Sudeikis drama/humor with a Godzilla sideshow and delivers exactly what one would expect from a limited theatrical release.
Impractical logic turns a sandbox playground into the "virtual-reality control center" for dinosaur-sized creatures that havoc destruction upon South Korea. Nearly all of the film's concentration is placed on morality values and the two small-town leads getting a handle on their mystifying demolition capabilities.
This may be very witty at times, but it still strands itself way over the borderline that divides blockbuster destruction movies from independent comedies.
