"Colossal" is a movie that's very hard to define - it's relationship monster movie horror rom com drama... something like that. Its subject matter is heavy, it's a movie about childhood trauma, addiction and destructive relationships - but it's done with a light, comedic touch that nevertheless always somehow manages to stay grounded in a recognizable reality in spite of its fantastical premise.
One of the most inventive, entertaining and unique movies of the year, for sure.
