"Colonia Dignidad" and Paul Schäfer were useful allies for the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, who were useful allies for Henry Kissinger and Richard Nixon. Suffice that Emma Watson, Daniel Brühl, and Michael Nyqvist are very careful selecting projects. This tale of a cult of torture and murder reflects events that would never have continued without the U.S. supported killings of General René Schneider, head of the Chilean military, and then Salvador Allende and then so many thousands of other individuals. Typical of Kissinger getting his hands on things.

There is a good Colonia Dgnidad article at Al Jazeera. 15-December-2013. Their writer Lucia Newman is well acquainted with the basic history.

You can measure the commitments of right wing propaganda by efforts to deny what underlies this story as well as the quality of the film. Nixon's man Pinochet had any number of connections with former Nazis. So of course they deny it. A movie that depicts the perversions and violence of those people is attacked on all sides.

So who do you trust? Emma Watson & Friends or the rightie bloggers? This production was German and they do understand Nazi madness. They are also very good at depicting Nazi misogyny and the Nazis' barbaric responses to the modern world. (Trump's a piker compared to the real Nazis.).
