Review of Colombiana (2011) by Brian S — 29 Apr 2012

I really wanted to like this movie. Sadly, I did not. Zoe Saldana is the only thing good about this movie. Her character is one bad ninja-like killer.

The movie reminds me a little of the television series, Revenge. After her parents are murdered, Cataleya only has one thing in mind for the next 15 years. Nothing will stop her from avenging their murders, including putting the lives of the only family she has left in jeopardy.

I don't mean to spoil the end, which is far from a happy ending. But there are no winners in this movie. Zoe is fantastic with tactics and it's fun to watch as she finds her way in and out of impossible situations. There's a lot of stuff being blown up and fight scenes for those of us who like that sort of thing. So, the movie was enjoyable, right up until the end. But, while her tactics are excellent, misses the big picture and the movie ended up leaving me feeling flat at the end.
