Review of Collide (2016) by Alex W — 25 Feb 2017
"A lot of action for a movie you've never heard of".
I can almost guarantee you haven't heard of Collide. It snuck into theaters this Friday, and has Nicolas Hoult billed as the lead actor. But what you may not know, is it also stars Anthony Hopkins, Ben Kingslay and Felicity Jones - who looks gorgeous, by the way. Collide is an action movie with a simple concept - What would you do for the love of your life? It runs with that concept, all the way down the autobahn at 140 K/ph.
Collide takes place in the beautiful city of Cologne Germany. This unsuspecting little movie has all the makings of a Transporter title, only without a lead that can disable 8 guys at once with a spoon. In spite of that, the pacing, and aid of legendary actors like Hopkins aided Hoult in carrying the movie. And what a movie this was! I went in expecting ... pretty much nothing, a low-budget whatever with one car chase and a pretty girl - and it was a whole lot more than that. We're talking the right amount of character development to make us care about the leads, a good length set up, and then action the whole way through. It's not a short movie, and when you think maybe now its over, it keeps going, and it sustains the pace the whole way through. What I expected would be one car chase, was more like 6, from the streets of Germany to the autobahn, with no less than 6 majors crashes, extremely expensive sports cars, explosions, and LOTS of shootin' tootin. Car chases, foot chases, shoot-outs, combat, parkour, more car chases ... Collide has it all. I'd even have to say it was better than the recent Transporter Refueled and Hit Man.
82%.
