Review of College Boys Live (2009) by Jason V — 27 Mar 2012
College Boys Live (yeah, that's the real title) is like watching an entire season of Big Brother-both the drama that goes on in front of the camera as well as behind. The guys who move into the CBL house aren't professional actors or reading from scripts; they are souls searching for something they think they can find in front of gawkers on webcams.
We get snippets of dramatic storylines from an unhinged roommate to problems with neighbors and houses. Yet the film moves from one storyline to another so quickly, few of the boys actually distinguish themselves.
Of course, the problem ones are memorable, but for all the wrong reasons. We also get to meet one devoted fan...one creepily devoted fan. Production values leave a lot to be desired-the film looks like it was shot with basic consumer cameras.
But that adds to the "allure" of the picture. I still feel like showering. The entire venture feels like a promotional ad for the website, and just a touch exploitative.
