Review of Collateral Beauty (2016) by Donardo H — 17 Dec 2016
Just because one doesn't like it, does not mean it isn't good. One of the largest criticisms of this movie is that it was too sappy, to melancholy, too heavy-handed on the bleak, however, that is literally how some people deal with grief.
I think, from a psychological perspective, this film lends itself to catharsis. I do not believe that the writers' mission was to create a cerebral drama but, rather, a visceral one. I think the creators of the movie intended to convey the sorrow that comes from the loss of a loved one and how it affects those connected to the individuals.
Was it the best movie, definitely not, however, in my humble opinion, it isn't worth 1/2 of a star. Again, this is all a matter of opion. In closing, this film accomplished it's goal, which was to explain what "Collateral Beauty" is and how to allow that phenominon to shape your perception to overcome tragic or otherwise difficult situations.
