Review of Collateral Beauty (2016) by Reagan A — 23 Dec 2016
I saw the movie. And, yes, I could see the sap people were talking about, but I also saw some really great writing and pacing in characterization. I saw real people dealing with very real things that are not usually covered in holiday movies.
It reminded me of the deep stuff dealt with in The Family Stone. I thought it was very well casted. I thought, though, there were a few parts that were not tied or confusing with are they ghosts or not and why would a therapist let this guy into her house? And, then, it all comes together.
I think it was refreshing to watch a movie without people blowing up, without big special effects and with instead big thought-provoking characters. I left the theatre lighter and with a new perspective of what is really important in life.
. and I needed that during the holiday pressure. I gave it a B- and I thought it was worth seeing. The cast was not over acting or underplayed. It was refreshing. I think it would probably be a pretty good book to read too.
