Review of Collateral Beauty (2016) by Nadeem G — 25 Mar 2017
Honestly I've rarely felt this misled by an RT score.
Why on earth this received such a hammering from critics is beyond me. Is it Academy material? No. Is it a Christmas movie? Hardly at all. But it's certainly a cut above many of the movies out there at the moment, and at many times it's both moving and beautiful and the cast keep it eminently watchable.
I may be wrong, but I feel it's perhaps more likely to be enjoyed by either parents, people who have lost someone, or people who have enjoyed movies in the past where concepts such as time and death are personified (Meet Joe Black comes to mind). And personally I thought Mr. Smith's performance was fantastic.
Is it an RT 95%+-er? No. But don't let the outrageously low RT critics score sway you too much. Check out the preview, look at the Audience score and if you fancy it, you will likely not be disappointed. I would actually happily watch it again.
This is my first ever RT Audience post, but I was so miffed at the score and how I almost missed out on a movie that both my wife and I were glad we saw.
