Review of Collateral Beauty (2016) by Donovan D — 25 May 2017
This movie is absolutely fantastic. The reviews do not give the movie justice for what the movie's goal actually was. It is beautiful and real. Howard who has gone through the suffering of losing a child is in so much grief that he cannot even go back to the way normal life was because without his daughter in his life, he is essentially lifeless.
He is mad at death for taking her and not him, mad at love for breaking his heart, and mad at time for not giving him more time with her or giving him less time without her. Throughout the journey of the movie, 3 coworkers of Howard have their own problems to worry about but they understand that Howard will not be ready any time soon to help not only them out, but the whole company.
They come up with a way to not only help/motivate Howard to try and get out of the set of mind that he is in, but to also help company in the process. Although, Howard has lost his daughter, the coworkers are going through serious hardships as well.
For example, Simon is suffering through a severe illness and without the company getting back together, his wife and child will be without a father and a husband, and also without a way to pay for their lifestyle.
There is a lot more to it than that and very character has their own storyline to go with it. This story is deep and if you watch the movie, take the time to understand the real meaning of the movie. It is not just a movie about a scandal to get a father to move on from the death of his child.
It is so much more than that.
