Review of Collateral Beauty (2016) by Keith E — 14 Dec 2016
Dare I compare the state of the world and a majority of responses including the cynical jabs from "critics?" I will. As my father suffers gravely from a particularly horrible form of cancer - !ot that any one in particular is fun...I see the lack of connection to the human spirit in these reviews. Perhaps it is lack of experience with dealing with death...but either way, it seems to indicate a self-absorbed culture that can't see trees...let alone the forest ahead.
Is this an all-time great classic? No. Are the collection of actors challenged to provide a top movie of our generation? No. What we have is a poignant reminder of the complexities of life and how we feel along the way. It's the confusion you feel when you think you know somebody but they take their own life...and you feel you never saw it coming. But that is life...dealing with the unexpected. For some, death is constantly on our mind or tucked away neatly in the pocket of our subconscious. For others, we don't deal with it until the last possible moment and that can cause us to do all sorts of "crazy things.".
This movie is a beautiful exploration of some subjects that most people never deal with until it is too late. The plot twists and sentimental pokes that align throughout the movie are there to give us hope. Perhaps it is easier to find cynicism and laugh at this movie for some of you...but one day you wIll find yourself searching for deeper meaning and hope - and may you find inspiration in something. This movie is not for everyone but it will help some people to process their grief and sadness and find meaning in their future.
