Review of Collateral (2004) by Minh V — 26 Apr 2013
Michael Mann delivers a smart and intense thriller in Collateral. Starring Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx, and Mark Ruffalo, the cast is quite strong. Cruise is especially good, and delivers one of the most impressive performances of his career.
The story follows a hitman who comes to L.A. for a job, and takes a cab driver hostage in order to drive him around while he takes out his targets. The writing is smart and full of sharp, rich dialog.
And Mann's directing is extraordinary; using a captivating visual style that's hyperreal and atmospheric. Collateral is a well-crafted and compelling film that's extremely engaging.
