Review of Collateral (2004) by Aaron A — 23 Dec 2010
"Take comfort in knowing you never had a choice.".
Max only took a job as a taxi driver to make ends meet. But he's about to have his craziest day yet when he discovers that Vincent, who's just paid him a handsome sum to be driven around all night, is a hit man.
Theres a certain meditative property to Collateral in the same vein as "Taxi Driver". Though the film spends plenty of time with a killer, its directed in such a way that one feels a somber calm in the chaos. The cinematography is wonderful, lending a distinct urban feel to the picture to go along with the meditative direction.
The performances from the two leads are equally as memorable as well. Jamie Foxx turns in one of his best screen performances.
With plenty of style to go along with a smart script, Collateral is a must see.
