Review of Colette (2018) by Patricia H — 23 Jan 2019
A good film. The story of this important but now forgotten lady should be told. Good strong acting from both leads. Keira Knightley was beautiful, perhaps too beautiful, and maybe not vulnerable enough for the part of the real Colette who of course was somewhat down-trodden and bookish but ultimately exhibited confidence in her talent and steely fortitude.
It was nice to see Dominic West's character painted not as a villain but in realistic tones. The Paris settings are excellent if a little dark (in colour). It was a bit like a TV drama. Worthy but not sufficient to grip me as such a film should.
