Review of Cold Souls (2009) by Janelle K — 25 Aug 2009
I was looking forward to this one because it seemed so Charlie Kaufman-esque, and it is on the surface, but it's also tighter, more polished, and more cerebral (but with less flourishes) than Kaufman's stuff.
On the other hand, it lacks some of, ironically -- or not, the "soul" of Kaufman's more meandering films. But it's still a great movie, smart and surprisingly laugh-out-loud funny for something with such a heavy premise.
Paul Giamatti is awesome, as always, and Dina Korzun stands out as a Russian "soul-mule" whose job is taking its toll.
