In Sophie Barthes' incredible debut Cold Souls, Paul Giamatti plays an actor named Paul Giamatti. He's struggling in a production of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, and finds out that he can actually buy himself a new soul.

Seeing an ad in The New Yorker, he visits Dr. Flintstein (David Strathairn in fine form) and has his soul placed in storage. Unfortunately this leads to him being the worst Uncle Vanya ever and thus Giamatti is out trying to buy a new soul illegally.

It sounds Charlie Kaufman-esque, but Barthes makes it her own vision, with the aid of cinematographer Andrij Parekh. But it's Giamatti who makes this one come to life in the most fun ways.
