Review of Cold Souls (2009) by Sv G — 21 Mar 2010
I really love Paul Giamatti which is why I had to see this film. This is interesting but nothing really all to new and bit quite a bit off of other films such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but it still had a most remarkable performance (as always) by Paul.
I laughed out loud a few times and enjoyed the moving moments as well. It's ending felt disjointed but over-all a fair film. Giamatti plays himself struggling with the weight of his own soul and has it removed and placed in a locker.
When he decides being without a soul isn't working either in either his personal life or career he takes on the soul of a Russian poet and so the story goes. Hardly a perfect film but interesting none the less.
