A great, very original film. Loved Paul Giamatti in this, he is great as always but this performance particularly deserved some award attention.

This is the debut of writer/director, Sophie Barthes. And a fine debut it is! It was a film also inspired from the genius, Woody Allen (which the part was originally going to be for but turned out for Giamatti) Specifically, it was inspired from a dream in which Woody Allen discovers that his soul looks like a chickpea! She mentions that her favourite Allen film is Sleeper, which you can see shades of here.

I remember walking in 30 seconds into Cold Souls when going to see it at the cinema, walking in to Paul Giamatti's monologue, reading from the play he is going to perform. This was a magical moment for me. Just walking in to such great camera work circling around Giamatti, such great dialogue from the rehearsal he is carrying out, such emotion he holds in his eyes. And from that moment I knew it was going to be an experience.

Hilariously funny in most of it and very touching and thought-provoking at the same time, I recommend this very much, although it may not be for some people. As it says on the DVD cover, definatly shall be loved by fans of Being John Malkovich :).
