Review of Cold Souls (2009) by Bryan W — 27 Dec 2010
Though it most often falls just short of being funny, this existential dramedy never ceases to be engaging.
Performances are believable all around and the story's structure is solid enough keep your attention, but the plot suffers thanks to some confusing directing; at times, the director too often becomes caught up with abstract images which expose a lack of interesting things in the story. Once you get past the basic premise, there really isn't much interesting and the stakes are painfully low throughout, but Giamatti clearly enjoys the high concept plot and acts the hell out of a man changing souls with too much regularity.
