Picked this up at a dying Blockbuster for cheap and loved every minute of it. Giamatti is perfectly cast in the role of himself trying to act in a Russian play but unable to relate to the sadness, so he does what every person who needs to lose emotion does...he has his soul removed.
The movie is dark, cynical, and hilarious. Everything that I could ever want in a movie. The second half of the story kind of feels tacked on but it doesn't deter from what is an overall enjoyable experience. And although there are plenty of comparisons to Eternal Sunshine and Being John Malkovich, I unfortunately did not see them before this so hence the difference in reviews.
