Like many skillfully crafted epics, Cold Mountain is fully equipped to tackle a sweeping message about life and love. Unfortunately, it's one that loses some of its force due to a lack of focus. Nevertheless, Cold Mountain is full of first rate performances that make it a worthy addition to anyone's film collection.
As for me, the next time I want to watch a Nicole Kidman movie with wide scope and ambition, I'll stick to Far and Away.
