Review of Cold in July (2014) by Jens L — 17 Oct 2014
1980's Texas and Richard Dane is jarred awake out of his deep slumber by his wife who has heard a noise in the house, he gets his gun, something that looks foreign to him, and, shaking, he quietly steps down the hallway to come face to face with the intruder. In his scared state he shoots and kills him. The local police close the case as self defense but the intruders father is released from jail and is out for vengeance for a son he hardly even knew and Richard is fearing for his and his family's life. Not all is what it seems though and the uncertainty about what actually happened grows inside the two men.
A great film, well shot, well written, great synth soundtrack and the three leads are in top form. What starts off as a drama turns nasty as it goes along, this slow burner is definitely something to stick with till the end, it might not be overly original but it is a great film.
