Review of Cold in July (2014) by Brandon S — 15 Nov 2014
Fantastic. There were a lot of very memorable performances, a gritty visual style, and a phenomenal twisty-turny plot, but the real standout here is the always brilliant Jim Mickle who managed to create a seedy and edgy thriller that is decidedly dark, but you aren't afraid to have fun watching.
Really the only thing keeping it from five stars is wobbly transitions in tone every now and then, and some fairly awkward effects (which are more than forgivable considering the budget). A great little thriller.
