Review of Cold Creek Manor (2003) by Manho N — 27 Dec 2007
When I first came across this film, through trailers, and some limited news in the press, I had actually thought this would be some kind of haunted house horror. Having sat through it now, its pretty much a standard by the book thriller with little thrill in it.
The main actor in the film is Dennis Quaid. Sharon Stone as female lead is merely used to plug up the spaces. Juliette Lewis' part has no purpose and Christopher Plummer was laughing all the way to the bank.
Stephen Dorff however does do bad guy psychopath well, the only other role in which I can rememeber him being a villain is Blade, but well, he was kinda supernatural. There were opportunities in the film where it could have got eerie and interesting however these were not pursued e.
G. the sordid and slightly disturbing photos that Cooper comes across, and the motive for the killings (well, OK, you do get told, but it appears pretty weak). Watching the film will pass the time, but only just.
The imagery of the dead horse in the pool is great, but thats about it.
