Review of Cold Creek Manor (2003) by Michael M — 17 Jul 2004
Starring: Dennis Quaid, Sharon Stone, Stephen Dorff, Juliette Lewis, Kristen Stewart, and Christopher Plummer.
Directed by Mike Figgis.
Written by Richard Jefferies.
Rated R (for violence, language and some sexuality).
Running time approximately 1 hour 59 minutes.
I usually say that you can't blame the film because it was marketed by sick, Hollywood producers trying to gain a few extra bucks by making it look more frightening than it actually is. The case with Mike Figgis' Cold Creek Manor, though, is one of disappointment whether one considers the ads or not. I think that, if one is to make a thriller with bad dialogue and cliché characters, one should at least make it fun for the viewer. There's some to like here (the score, Stone's attempt at a comeback, Quaid, etc.), but mostly, I was let down. *1/2 (out of ****) C-.
