Review of Coherence (2014) by Lewis E — 13 Oct 2014
Half sci-fi, half relationship drama. Half intriguing scientific concept, half petty arguments and female jealousy. Tend to like my pizzas half and half but would have preferred this with full sci-fi toppings. Starts off with a casual dinner between friends (YAWN) until a comet passes and the guests begin to notice irregularities in reality (mmm interesting...go on). It is necessary to stop there because all of the fun comes from deciphering what the hell is going on. Definitely smart elements to it and you'll stay watching this dull, old group bicker just to see what crazy shizzle happens next. Unfortunately, it is limited by a lack of major events (due to a low budget) and periods where it delves into relationship drama without taking it anywhere significant. Despite its clever use of mind-bending concepts, it rarely escalates proceedings to a level which truly shocks viewers.
You won't have a totally riveting time sitting through 'Coherence' but at least the creativity (i.e wackiness) can be appreciated.
