Review of Coherence (2014) by Nicolette P — 04 Feb 2015
Coherence is a complicated film, both to explain and understand, but that doesn't stop it from being one of the most intense films I have watched in a long time. When 8 friends get together for a dinner party, the power suddenly goes off, their cellphones stop working and the internet no longer works.
When they go outside, there is a single house in the distance that has power. That is about five minutes into the movie, and every five minutes after that presents a new mystery and a new twist. This is a science fiction film stripped down to its bare bones.
There are no special effects, and yet, it is one of the most thought provoking films in recent memory. The acting is top notch, the writing presents the drama in a relatable fashion and the direction is serviceable, so if you like movies that have interesting plot twists, this movie is for you.
4 out of 5 stars.
