Review of Cohen and Tate (1989) by Antony V — 04 Nov 2007
One of those films that no one has ever seen. Never been released on DVD, which is a crying shame. Written and directed by Eric Red, who wrote The Hitcher and Near Dark, this film shares the same kind of fatalistic, road-movie vibe.
Roy Scheider (Jaws) and Adam Baldwin (Firefly) play professional hitmen who have to transport a young boy, who is a witness to a mafia killing, to their bosses, where he will presumably be killed.
Scheider is an ice cold professional. Baldwin is a psychopath. During thier long car journey, the boy recognises the tensions between the two hitmen, and realises his only chance of survival is to play them off against each other.
This is a taut film without an ounce of fat on it. I still have my trusty VHS copy, but someone please bing it out on DVD!
