Review of Coffy (1973) by Roberto R — 31 Oct 2007
This film was a lot of fun and a very entertaining piece of 70s "blaxploitation", which is very of it's time and dated, but a joy to watch. Pam Grier is great as Coffy, which is a much bigger role then in her previous films she had made with Jack Hill.
Also, there is Sid Haig as a nasty heavy Omar. Sid Haig always plays his characters (in the films I have seen with him in, which were directed by Jack Hill) quite 'campy'. But with this tough talking gangster, he seems to have his tongue firmly in his cheek for this role.
So the film has quite a few fight scenes which end up with torn dresses exposing breasts and one or two gory scenes with that really bright red fake blood. The clothes of the pimps are very loud and the music funky and a female vigilante.
.. what more could you ask for in a film!
