Review of Coffy (1973) by Michael T — 07 Nov 2008
FOXY BROWN was a bit better but this film established Pam Grier as a kickbutt modern black superheroine (who happens to be built like a brick shipyard, which director Jack Hill keeps reminding us of). Pam plays a nurse out to avenge her sister's OD and comes up against the usual assortment of smooth-talking black pimps, white gangsters (including the always menacing Sid Haig), and crooked (white) cops.
While all these guys feast their eyes on Pam's figure, she pulls out a sawed-off 12 gauge and blows them away.
