Review of Coffy (1973) by Joshua B — 10 May 2010
An interesting blaxploitation film from Jack Hill ("Foxy Brown") which stars Pam Grier ("Jackie Brown", "Foxy Brown"). This is a revenge story as Grier's character, Coffy, goes after people responsible for her younger sister overdosing on drugs. She is also getting revenge for her cop friend that refused to turn a blind eye to illegal activity. Coffy infiltrates these drug and prostitution rackets and kicks ass.
The action is pretty good and the film maintains a good pace. Grier is very good in this, but the acting from some of the other cast members isn't the greatest. People I recognized in this are: Sid Haig ("House of 1000 Corpses", "Jackie Brown") and Allan Arbus ("M*A*S*H*").
It's an entertaining film with lots of action and a good soundtrack. 3/5 stars. (5/11/10).
