Review of Coffin Rock (2009) by Tom B — 01 Aug 2011
An Ozzy stab at an oddball horror that is actually quite good, if you can stick with it and not laugh.
This Australian horror has gained some cult praise and I can see why. On a low budget a competent cast deliver what is a surprising tale, which is weird, gripping and dark/funny almost.
Its a fishing village in Australia. A couple are having IVF to conceive. Nothing is working and so problems arise. The lady goes on a night out (to the local bar) and as she fends off one admirer runs into a newly arrived neighbour - the young Irish nutter ?? (complete with rescued Kangaroo). Anyway they sleep together, and you guessed it, she falls pregnant. Wrought with regret and with the lad becoming growingly an aggressive stalker things turn for the worse as the unhinged man tries to whisk the woman away, willing to kill to achieve his evil plan.
The film is individual, qwerky, with a good psycho character and just enough at the end to reward sticking with it.
